You will need to configure your TiVo Wireless N Adapter before connecting it to your TiVo box. Attach the adapter to your computer’s Ethernet port and then open a web browser. Enter the following address in your browser: 192.168.10.1

If you are unable to see the adapter Configuration Wizard on your computer, the address may be assigned to something else on your network. Try the following:

1. Be sure you are using the latest version of one of the following web browsers:

  • Internet Explorer
  • Firefox
  • Safari
  • Opera
  • Chrome

2. With the Wireless N Adapter connected to your computer, disconnect the computer from your home network and entering 192.168.10.1 again. You can reconnect the computer to your home network once the adapter Configuration Wizard is complete.

3. Ensure that the TiVo Wireless N Adapter is in client mode and not in bridge mode. Check the switch on the bottom of the adapter to verify this and select client mode.

4. Ensure that both sides of the cable connector are attached to the TiVo Wireless N Adapter have been securely seated.

5. If you are using a computer that can connect wirelessly or 3G/4G, be sure to turn off your wireless or 3G/4G before starting your Wireless N adapter setup.

6. If your adapter was previously configured to another home network or router, you will need to reset the adapter. To reset your TiVo Wireless N Adapter to its factory default settings, use a paper clip to gently press the Reset button on the bottom of the adapter until the power LED turns amber, then release. The adapter will restart with its factory default settings. Try entering 192.168.10.1 again.

I am using Internet Explorer and am getting a search page or 'Page cannot be displayed'

  1. Select Tools from the IE menu.
  1. Choose Internet options.
  1. Click on the Advanced tab.
  1. Scroll down to Search from the Address Bar (about two thirds of the way down) and select “Do not submit unknown addresses to your auto-search provider" or - depending upon your Internet Explorer version - select “Do not search from Address bar”.
  1. Click Apply and then OK.
  1. Try entering 192.168.10.1 again.

Adapter does not work when connected to the TiVo box

If you completed the adapter Configuration Wizard, but the adapter does not connect when you attach the adapter to your TiVo box, check the following:

  • If your adapter’s LEDs are showing solid and indicate a secure network connection but your TiVo box still won’t connect, verify the TiVo box is using the correct DHCP address:

Premiere: From TiVo Central, go to > Settings & messages > Settings > Network & Phone > Change network settings > Get automatically from a DHCP server

TiVo HD: From TiVo Central, go to > Messages & Settings > Settings > Phone & Network > Change network settings > Get automatically from a DHCP server

Series2: From TiVo Central, go to > Messages & Settings > Settings > Phone & Network > Change network settings > Get automatically from a DHCP server

  • To update the TiVo service connection on your home network, browse to the Network & Phone screen:

Premiere: From TiVo Central, go to > Settings & messages > Settings > Network & Phone > Use network connection instead

TiVo HD: From TiVo Central, go to >Messages & Settings > Settings > Phone & Network > Use network connection instead

Series2: From TiVo Central, go to > Messages & Settings > Settings > Phone & Network > Use network connection instead

I am unable to connect to the network during setup

If the TiVo Wireless N Adapter does not connect to the network after you have entered your network settings:

  1. To ensure the adapter is within your routers wireless range, see Check your wireless adapter signal strength.
  1. Ensure that you are entering the correct SSID (Network Name) and password.
  1. Ensure all wired connections (power cords, Ethernet cables, etc.) are securely plugged in and make sure your router is on and functioning properly. Make sure that both sides of the cable connector that attaches to the adapter are pressed firmly into the adapter.
  1. If you are unable to connect to the Network using manual setup, you will need to ensure that you have selected the correct encryption type for your router, e.g. WPA, WPA-2, WEP, None.
  1. To repeat the setup process ensuring all network settings are entered correctly, see TiVo Wireless N Adapter Setup.

WPS setup fails

If you have trouble connecting to your router using WPS, try resetting your TiVo Wireless N Adapter to its factory default settings and then configure the adapter manually using the setup wizard.

  1. The adapter must remain plugged into power during the reset procedure.
  1. To reset your TiVo Wireless N Adapter to its factory default settings, use a paper clip to gently press the Reset button on the bottom of the adapter until the power LED turns amber, then release. The adapter will restart with its factory default settings.

IMPORTANT: Do not use any object to reset the TiVo Wireless N Adapter that is larger than the reset button diameter. Doing so will permanently damage the device.

  1. To view the manual configuration instructions, see Configuring adapter settings manually.
  1. If the adapter is still unable to connect to your wireless network after you try the manual setup procedure, check the following:

  • Ensure the correct Network Name (SSID) is selected from the list of available networks (the network name is case sensitive and must match exactly).
  • If your network router uses WPA or WPA-2 security, make sure you are using the same passphrase used to connect other devices (note: the passphrase is case sensitive).
  • If your network router uses WEP, make sure that your security credentials match those that you set up on your router.

I have changed the name of my network or purchased a new router. How do I put the new network information into my Wireless N Adapter?

To put different or new network information into your Wireless N Adapter, you will need to reset your adapter back to factory default settings and run the Setup Wizard again.

How do I update the firmware on my adapter?

See Wireless N Adapter firmware for instruction on updating the firmware of your TiVo Wireless N adapter.

I receive an "Invalid File" error when I try to update the firmware

If you are manually updating the firmware on your TiVo Wireless N adapter using the Setup Wizard, you may see an "Invalid File" error for one of the following reasons:

  • The firmware version contained in the selected firmware file is older than the firmware currently running on your adapter. Your adapter already has the most current firmware installed.
  • If a message appears that the selected firmware file is corrupted, download the file again.

The adapter is physically damaged or is very hot

  • Most TiVo wireless adapters are in good condition when they are first removed from their original packaging. On rare occasions, an adapter will get damaged in shipping. If the package arrives with loose parts that rattle, or there is obvious physical damage to the adapter or cable, contact TiVo Customer Support for assistance.
  • The TiVo Wireless N Adapter will emit some heat as a normal part of its operation. An internal temperature sensor will shut the device off if it becomes too hot. To decrease warmth, place the adapter in an unconfined place with good airflow surrounding it. If you are concerned about the heat produced by your adapter, contact TiVo Customer Support for assistance.
