Transferring a program from one DVR to another

This procedure refers to the source DVR and destination DVR.

  • The source DVR is the one which contains the program to transfer.
  • The destination DVR is the one to which the program is being transferred.

Both the source and destination DVRs will continue to function normally while the transfer is taking place. You will always initiate the transfer from the destination DVR. Select the DVR you are adding your transferred recording to below:

I want to transfer a show to a TiVo Roamio Series or Premiere Series DVR

  1. Make sure the source and destination DVRs are connected to your network. For information on connecting TiVo DVRs, go to How to connect a TiVo DVR to your network.
  2. Make sure that you have enabled transfers in My Account.
  3. From the destination DVR, press the TiVo button on the remote control to go to TiVo Central and select Now Playing (SD menus) or My shows (HD menus).
  4. From the Now Playing or My shows screen, highlight the name of the source DVR and press Select.
  5. From the list of programs on the source DVR, highlight the program to transfer and press Select.
  6. From the Program screen, select Transfer this recording.

  7. If the recording had begun on the source DVR, you may also see Transfer from paused point.

If a transfer is already in progress, the new request will be added to the To Do List and scheduled for transfer later.

IMPORTANT: Programs are transferred one at a time in the order requested. The speed of the transfer depends on a variety of factors. For example, a program recorded at a higher quality takes longer than one recorded at a lower quality, and wireless networks are generally slower than wired networks.

  8. From the Getting Program screen, select Start playing to begin viewing the program as it transfers.

  9. NOTE: You can only watch the portion of the recording that has been transferred to the second DVR. Because transfer speeds can vary, you may experience pauses during playback if the transfer is not complete.
