The instructions below will guide you through the process of adding your TiVo Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite to your existing MoCA network.

Why would I set up my Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite like this?

The reason you would choose this setup is because you already have a MoCA network in your home. If you need to set up a MoCA network:

  • Follow the MoCA router/adapter instructions to set up your MoCA network.
  • Use another TiVo Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite to set up a MoCA network (bridge).

What do I need to set up my Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite like this?

  • Cable or DSL modem
  • Cable splitter:

If you are using a cable modem, the splitter must have at least three Cable Out ports: one to connect to the cable modem, one to connect to the TiVo Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite, and one to connect to an additional TiVo box or TV you want to connect.

If you are using a DSL modem, the splitter must have at least two Cable Out ports: one to connect to the Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite, and one to connect to an additional TiVo box in your home. Increase the number of Cable Out ports for every additional TiVo box or TV you want to connect.

  • Coaxial cables (5 minimum if using a cable modem, 4 minimum if using a DSL modem)
  • 2 Ethernet cables
  • Telephone cable (if using a DSL modem)
  • MoCA-enabled router
  • ECB (Ethernet-to-coax-Bridge) Adapter (This is only needed if you are setting up a new MoCA network where the TiVo Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite is in a different room than the modem/router.

How to set up my Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite on my MoCA network?

1. Connect a coax cable from one of the splitter's Cable Out ports to the coax/MoCA port on your TiVo Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite.

2. Make sure your router, modem, and ECB (if applicable) are all powered on.

3. Connect the TiVo Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite to your TV with your HDMI or Component cables.

4. Connect the TiVo Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite power cord and then plug it into a wall outlet.

5. If you are setting up your Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite for the first time, you will be prompted to complete Guided Setup. On the Network (MoCA) Connection screen during Guided Setup, select Change MoCA Settings. If prompted, use the following settings:

  • MoCA Enabled: Yes
  • MoCA Channel: [auto]
  • Encryption Key: [none]

6. If your Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite has already completed Guided setup using another connection method - such as wired or wireless Internet - disconnect the Ethernet cable or wireless adapter from the Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite, and go to:

From TiVo Central go to Settings & Messages > Settings > Network > Change network settings > Change MoCA settings.

7. Use the following settings:

  • MoCA Enabled: Yes
  • MoCA Channel: [auto]
  • Encryption Key: [none]

8. If you are prompted for a DHCP address, choose Get automatically from a DHCP server (typical).

Congratulations! MoCA setup is complete!

How do I set up my Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite as a bridge?

The instructions below will guide you through the process of setting up your TiVo Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite as a MoCA bridge. This means that your TiVo Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite will be able to provide Internet over coax cable to other MoCA-enabled devices. Note that these MoCA-enabled devices must be using the same coax cable system as the TiVo Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite.

What is a 'bridge'?

Setting up the TiVo Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite as a bridge allows it to broadcast the MoCA signal to other MoCA-enabled devices on the network.

Why should I set up my Premiere 4 or XL4/Elite like this?

Choose this setup method if you want to set up a MoCA network in your home to connect to other MoCA-enabled devices. If you do not have any other MoCA-enabled devices, we recommend using a standard network. See How to connect a TiVo box to your network for instructions.
