The TiVo Slide Pro remote makes using your TiVo Roamio Series or Premiere Series DVR even easier. The Slide Pro features:

  • QWERTY keyboard
  • Backlit buttons
  • IR and RF functionality (RF is ideal for the in-cabinet or home-theater setup, and is required for the QWERTY keyboard)
  • Built-in remote finder (Roamio Plus and Roamio Pro only)
  • Learning remote capability (is able to learn your TV or A/V system's remote control commands directly from the other remote)
  • Search and Back buttons

NOTE: The Search button only works if your DVR is running software version 20.3.8 or higher. For more information on updating your software version, see TiVo Software Version Information.

Installation & setup

Step 1: Pair your Slide Pro

Before you can use your Slide Pro remote in RF mode, you need to pair it with your TiVo DVR. RF mode lets you control the DVR even if the remote doesn't have a direct line of sight to the box, and is required if you use the slide-out keyboard.

Roamio Instructions

  1. On your Roamio Series DVR, navigate to Settings & Messages > Settings > Remote, CableCARD, & Devices > Remote Control Setup > Part 5: Remote control pairing. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  2. Press and hold the Tivo + Back buttons until the activity indicator light turns red. The remote control will then send pairing requests for 30 seconds (indicated by the flashing activity indicator).
Troubleshooting

If you are having trouble pairing the remote, perform a global reset on your remote. A global reset returns the remote to its factory default settings:

  1. Press and hold the TiVo + TV Power buttons until the activity indicator on the remote lights red.
  2. Press the Thumbs Down button 3 times, followed by the Enter button (located below the 9 button on the remote).

Premiere and TiVo Mini Instructions

  1. Insert the RF dongle into a USB port on the back of the Premiere Series DVR or TiVo Mini. The light on the dongle flashes green to indicate that it is in pairing mode.

NOTE: If you want to use the lowermost USB port, and the HDMI cable prevents you from plugging in the dongle, use the included extension cable.

  2. Press and hold the TiVo + Back buttons until the activity indicator on the remote turns red. The remote control will then send pairing requests for 30 seconds (indicated by the flashing amber activity indicator).

NOTE: RF functionality on Premiere Series DVRs and TiVo Mini requires software version 20.3.7.1a or greater.

Troubleshooting

If you are having trouble pairing the remote with the RF dongle, try the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Perform a global reset on the remote. A global reset returns the remote to its factory default settings:

    1. Press and hold the TiVo + TV Power buttons until the activity indicator on the remote lights red.
    2. Press the Thumbs Down button 3 times, followed by the Enter button (located below the 9 button on the remote).
  • Re-pair the remote with the dongle

    1. Return the dongle to pairing mode by pressing the button on the dongle and holding it for five seconds.
    2. Pair the remote with the dongle by pressing TiVo+Back buttons on the remote and holding them until the activity indicator turns red. The remote control will then send pairing requests for 30 seconds (indicated by the flashing amber activity indicator).
    3. If the HDMI cable connecting your DVR to the TV with an HDMI cable and you want to use the lower USB port to connect your RF dongle, use the included extension cable-the dongle itself is too large to fit in the lower port when an HDMI cable is present.

Step 2: Program your Slide Pro

The TV Power, Input, Volume, and Mute buttons on the Slide Pro can be customized to work with your TV or A/V receiver.

  1. On your DVR, go to Settings & Messages > Settings > Remote, CableCARD, & Devices > Remote Control Setup
  2. Complete Remote Control Setup Parts 1–3.

The Slide Pro is also a "learning" remote-it can learn controls directly from other remotes. For instructions on using the learning feature of your Slide Pro, visit Using the Learning Feature of TiVo Learning Remotes.

Troubleshooting

If you are having difficulty with your Slide Pro remote, use the following steps to resolve the issue:

  • Replace the batteries with fresh ones. Make sure you are using new batteries rather than batteries from other remotes or devices.
  • Make sure that the batteries are inserted correctly according to the diagram in the battery compartment.
  • If you are using the remote in IR mode (the activity indicator flashes red when you press buttons on the remote), make sure there are no obstacles preventing the signal from reaching the front of the DVR.

IMPORTANT: Remember that the QWERTY keyboard only functions when the Slide Pro is in RF mode. See the installation instructions at the beginning of this article to enable RF mode.

  • Perform a global reset on the remote. A global reset returns the remote to its factory default settings.
    1. Press and hold the TiVo + TV Power buttons until the activity indicator on the remote lights red.
    2. Press the Thumbs Down button 3 times, followed by the Enter button (located below the 9 button on the remote).
  • (Premiere Series and TiVo Mini) If you are using the Slide Pro in RF mode, make sure the RF dongle is correctly inserted into a USB port on the box. If the dongle isn't connected, the Slide Pro will revert to IR mode and you will lose the ability to use the QWERTY keyboard until the dongle is plugged in again.
  • (Premiere Series and TiVo Mini) Re-pair the remote with the dongle:
  • If the previous steps fail to resolve the issue, powercycle your DVR by unplugging the power cord, waiting 10 seconds, then plugging it back in. If you have a DVR Expander, remember to powercycle it at the same time.
  • If powercycling your DVR doesn't resolve the issue, contact TiVo Customer Support.
