Transferring a TiVo Device to a New Owner

Having a TiVo DVR gives you interactivity with your favorite programs and movies. It helps you find programs you never knew existed. It makes sure you don’t miss the latest talk show, drama, or baseball game while you’re at work, on vacation, or spending time with your family.

However, if there comes a time when you have to part with your TiVo DVR, you may have the option of transferring ownership of your TiVo DVR to a new owner - a very simple process.

We are sorry that you’re giving your TiVo DVR a new home, but we understand situations arise when it’s better to place your TiVo DVR with new owner.

We recommend you and the new owner contact TiVo Customer Support at the same time. If this is not possible, please contact us before the new owner so we can prepare the transfer for the new owner. We will need the new owner’s full name and email address.

IMPORTANT: Do not ship or give your DVR away until you have unlinked all your accounts (i.e. Netflix, Pandora, etc.). Once you have completed this, you will want to perform a Clear & Delete Everything on your TiVo DVR to clear any other remaining personal information.

Once the previous owner has contacted us to let us know the DVR will be transferring ownership, call TiVo Customer Support and we will be ready to set your account up so you can start enjoying your TiVo DVR!

It is important to move the TiVo DVR onto your own account so you have access to your online account and be assigned a Media Access Key. This will give you access to Online Scheduling, view online TV guides, and allow you to use our free iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch, and Android apps with a Series3 or Premiere DVR.

You are obligated to comply with all terms of your service agreement. If the new owner does not want to take responsibility of your current commitment, and you want to cancel service before the end of your commitment, you may be subject to fees.

If you have agreed to take over the commitment of the TiVo DVR from the current owner, we recommend you and the current owner call in at the same time. If this is not possible, please ask the current owner to call in before you with your full name and email address.

If the DVR was added to your account but never activated, we recommend that you and the current owner call TiVo Customer Support at the same time. If this is not possible, please call ahead of the new owner and provide us with the new owner’s full name and email address.
