How does the Amazon Alexa feature work?
What is Alexa?
Alexa is Amazon’s virtual digital assistant built into devices such as Amazon Echo or Echo Dot (hands-free smart speakers). Alexa responds to voice commands by returning information or performing an action on certain devices such as your TiVo device.
What does the Amazon Alexa feature do?
The TiVo Skill on Alexa allows you to control TiVo devices with your voice.
How does Amazon Alexa work?
Once the TiVo device and the Alexa device are paired, you will be able to control your TiVo device using the Amazon Alexa: Supported Commands. Alexa does this by focusing on the TiVo skill. If no voice command or the remote control has not been used for approximately 90 minutes, focus on the TiVo skill may "time out" and lose focus. When this happens, you can have Alexa focus on the TiVo skill by adding "on TiVo" (e.g., “Alexa, pause on TiVo”) to the command or by pressing a button on the remote control.
Note: Although not required when the TiVo skill is "in focus", the best results are achieved by adding "on TiVo", or the group name if the TiVo device is a part of aSmart Home Group, to the first command you issue. You can add one TiVo device to a Smart Home Group.
Note: There are words or phrases such as “pause” or “play” that are used by TiVo, as well as other music and video providers. To direct Alexa’s focus to TiVo, use the word “TiVo”, as in “Pause on TiVo”, or “Play on TiVo”.
