Plex: App information
The Plex app enables TiVo users to stream video, music, and photos from their computer or network-attached storage (NAS) device by organizing video, music, and photo collections. Plex Channels provide access to numerous sources of online content, like TED Talks, Vimeo, Revision 3, and more. No matter what your interests are, you’ll be able to find something great to watch.

Requirements
You need to meet the following requirements to use the Plex app for TiVo:
Compatible DVRs
- TiVo EDGE Series
- TiVo BOLT Series
- TiVo Roamio Series
- TiVo Premiere Series using HD menus
- TiVo Mini Series
Software version
To use Plex, your TiVo EDGE Series, TiVo BOLT Series, TiVo Roamio Series, TiVo Premiere Series, or TiVo Mini must be running software version 20.X or higher. To check your software version, see TiVo Experience 3 Software Version Information and TiVo Experience 4 Software Version Information.
Network connection
Plex requires your TiVo device to have a working broadband Internet connection. In addition, your network must meet the following requirements:
- A minimum download speed of 1 Mbps is required to use Plex.
- Ports 80 and 443 must be open on your network.
- The TiVo DVR and the computer or NAS device must be connecting to the same network.
Plex on 4K/Ultra HD
With 4K/Ultra High-Definition or UHD resolution, you'll immediately notice a viewing experience that’s more vivid and lifelike than ever before. 4K/UHD content is available on Plex. To take advantage of it, the following requirements must be met:
- Recommended internet connection speed of at least 25 Mbps or higher
- 4K/UHD compatible TV
- A TiVo EDGE, TiVo BOLT VOX, TiVo BOLT Unified Entertainment System or a connected TiVo Mini VOX.
Note: Plex only support a subset of all possible 4K video formats. 4K videos in a non-supported format will automatically be downscaled to 1080p.
App setup on external device
Before you can stream content from your computer or NAS device to your TiVo DVR, you need to complete the setup process for the Plex app on all devices involved in transfers.
A basic version of the Plex app is available for free, while more advanced versions are available at a range of prices. Visit https://www.plex.tv/apps/streaming-devices/tivo to find the version which fits your needs. Make sure to complete all of the setup steps on your computer or NAS device before trying to stream content to your TiVo DVR.
Troubleshooting
Plex doesn't appear in my Music & Photos list:
Premiere Series DVRs only:
Plex requires that you use the high-definition TiVo menu (HDUI). The launch point will not display in the classic standard definition menu (SDUI). To toggle that setting, see: How to Set the Video Output Format on Your DVR. ![]()
Roamio Series DVRs or Newer DVRs with HDUI:
